Kroka Expeditions Director’s House
Repeat Customers: Laura Fitch has helped Kroka Expeditions with 4 distinct projects. Helping develop the on-site home for the director was particularly rewarding for us. This 1,500 SF home sits on a south-facing hill overlooking the Kroka Expeditions farm and camp. Angles in the plan and sweeping curves in the roof line were considered in response to the site, solar orientation, the program, and an interest in the Steiner philosophies of design. The layout of the home, with central interior and exterior kitchens, allows for family-centered activities (homework, meals, and projects) around the dining table in all seasons. Connection to the land, farm animals, and camp programs is balanced with the need for privacy within the home. 3D modeling was used to test winter solar gain and summer shading and for clarifying and strengthening relationships to various campus program elements.
